Netting the Waters - A Celebration for Port Dover's Fishing Community

Join us in celebrating Port Dover’s fishing community and the award winning film, Netting the Waters.

The top-grossing movie shown at the Strand Theatre in Simcoe over the past 25 years does not feature Tom Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff or Margot Robbie bringing Barbie to the big screen.

Netting the Waters is a documentary created by local photographer and videographer, Daryl Granger. It showcases life on the water as a commercial fisherman and features local Captains and Crew.

The film has won numerous awards from film festivals across the world, has been playing in movie theatres from London to Toronto and has had over 100 screenings locally at Simcoe’s Strand Theatre as tickets continually sold out.

We are brining this documentary home to Port Dover with an outdoor viewing event. The event will celebrate the local fishing community with live music, local food from Gator BBQ and fun games and activities for the entire family.

This is a non-licensed event, no alcohol will be sold or permitted. No coolers allowed. Drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase. Admission is by donation.

All funds raised will support the Port Dover’s Kinsmen Splash Pad.

Event sponsors are: Kristina Kett of Edward Jones Port Dover, Ray and Amie Ferris of Erie’s Edge Real Estate, the Port Dover Kinsmen Club and the Port Dover Lions Club.

Adult Homesteading: Making Kombucha

Join us & learn about kombucha from Sarah Judd of Meadow Lynn Market Garden. We will learn what kombucha is and how it can benefit your health as well as how to take care of your SCOBY*, how to brew your own kombucha at home, continuous brewing for easy drinking and more!  You will be able to try different drinks and snacks that you can make with kombucha, receive a brewing instructions booklet and take home your very own starter kit.

*A SCOBY, or "Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast," is the living culture used to ferment tea into kombucha. The SCOBY forms a rubbery, pancake-like layer on top of the tea during fermentation, feeding on sugar and transforming the tea into a probiotic-rich, tangy drink. SCOBYs are essential to the fermentation process, as they house beneficial bacteria and yeast that produce the acids, vitamins, and carbonation kombucha is known for. SCOBYs can be reused across multiple batches of kombucha, and each brew typically grows a new SCOBY layer, which can be shared, stored, or used to make new batches.

Soup Art Bowls

Soup Art Bowls is a fun, casual social event. For a $30 ticket, guests receive a pottery bowl of their choice, handmade by a member of the Norfolk Potters’ Guild, and the opportunity to sample as many gourmet soups as they would like, prepared and served by local restaurants. Soup can be enjoyed at tables with friends, or while guests are on the move in between serving stations.

There are also express passes available for the first time this year. For $40, a ticket holder can skip the line to get into the event faster. This premium ticket is being tested this year to accommodate people who want to attend the event but have to get in and out quickly. There are only 50 express passes available.

So far, the Erie Beach Hotel, Trish's Gluten Free Bakery, Urban Parisian, Barrel Restaurant, Neighbourhood Food Emporium, Fisherman's Catch, Clonmel Castle, and My Pantree have confirmed they will return. For the first time, Tim Hortons and St. Paul's Anglican Church will join us. We'll post updates whenever a new partner comes on board.

Tickets are on-sale now at:

Port Dover Jewellery and Gifts, 343 Main Street
Dover Cheese Shop, 307 Main Street

Norfolk Potters' Guild members also have tickets.

There are no online tickets available for this event. Last year we had a couple scam victims. Please do not buy tickets online. If someone is attempting to re-sell tickets online please be cautious about their authenticity.

The Port Dover Senior Centre is a community-run, not-for-profit organization operating within the Port Dover Lions Community Centre. The centre offers fitness, creativity, information, and social engagement programs weekly to 450 members.

The Norfolk Potters' Guild & Studio operates a co-operative studio in facilities at 60 First Ave. West in Simcoe. Adult classes are offered to the public and members enjoy a variety of workshops. Studio members have 24/7 access to the Studio to come in and work as they please.
