Travel Thursdays - Homegrown Hideaway
As we dream about the days when we can travel the world again, we remember winter plane rides and far away beaches with umbrella drinks and buffets. But as we optimistically think about travel in 2021 we are planning to stay closer to home and feeling thankful for the opportunities in our own backyard for those wanting to be able to drive to their destination.
For our family personally, we are usually at softball diamonds across Ontario and the U.S. so we hadn’t had a “free” summer in a long time before last year. This year unfortunately looks to be the same at this point so we’re going to make the best of local places and neighbourhood parks.
Here on our site we’ll feature a new place to call “Home Sweet Vacation Home” each Travel Thursday, starting in our very own Norfolk County, Ontario’s Garden.
First up, Homegrown Hideaway, a beautiful Glamping site run by a local family and designed for you nature lovers. I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful bring-your-own picnic lunch for a physically distanced get together this summer at Homegrown Hideaway. We sat by the river under the trees and chatted and ate while the breeze kept us cool. Plenty of parking, washrooms, privacy for overnight guests, a gorgeous barn for events (that we can’t wait to rent when the time is right) and the kindest Host family, the Jager’s.
You’ll find Homegrown Hideaway just a few minutes outside of Port Dover (lucky us!) which is about an hour and a half from Toronto and about the same the opposite direction to London. A huge bonus is the proximity to so many Wineries, Breweries, small town shopping, markets and a beautiful Trail System to walk and bike… but we’ll get to those gems a little later on in our series.
When it’s safe to do so, we hope you’ll visit our beautiful area and please let Caroline and Jon know we sent you :)
