March Break 2023!
I don’t know about you but around the middle of February my kids start getting really excited about March Break! This year it’s from the 13th-17th which means they are off from the 11th-19th altogether. We’ve put together a list of (mostly) local things to do and added in some day trip things we are going to give a try this year, hope you enjoy!
Open Doors
We have recently learned about Open Doors and we are excited to share them with those of you who might not know them yet! In their own words: “Open Doors offers physical and personal care, social and emotional support, recreational and leisure activities, both at the facility and within the community. We believe that all members of the community need to be seen, respected and immersed in as many meaningful experiences as possible. We will take clients with special needs and help them to be involved in our community in a safe and enjoyable way.”
They are hosting a March Break Camp but they are also running a fundraiser to raise money for the new van they have recently purchased to make road trips more inclusive for their participants. Check it out and contact them to support their project HERE if you can!
Beach Reads Bookshop
Beach Reads is one of our new favourite places! This March Break they have a few fun events planned so check your calendars… They have a children’s Book Swap on Wednesday, March 15th from 11-5, Storytime with Mayor Amy Martin on Thursday March 16th at 10:30am, and a book signing event with local author Jody Overend on Friday March 17th from 1:00-2:30pm. Follow along with their activities on their Facebook page or check out their WEBSITE!
From her online bio: Jody is a former advertising copywriter from Toronto, Canada. She distils her fascination with life beyond death, reincarnation, and all the possibilities beyond this physical world into her Young Adult fiction featuring Bessie MacIntyre and her friends. Just so you can get up to speed with Jody’s books, check out her Bessie Series HERE - it sounds amazing!!
Spectrum Gymnastics
Although there is no official March Break camp, you can rent out the facility for yourself! How lucky are we to have a gym like this right in our own backyard :) There is a staff member there for supervision and to go over safety rules but not to assist with kids. Guardians attending will be required to be in the gym with the kids but a coach will have different circuits set up for kids to explore! Check out their website HERE

Lighthouse Theatre
Peter Pan
Wendy Darling is sad to learn that she’s growing too old to stay in the nursery any longer and must move to the adult wing of the house. But when an adventurous young boy offers to fly her to Neverland where she can stay young forever, Wendy is catapulted into an adventure filled with magic pixies, charming pirates, and talking trees! As Peter Pan battles his arch-nemesis Captain Hook in DuffleBag Theatre’s fun version of J.M. Barrie’s beloved classic, even grown-ups will feel like kids again!
This is an interactive performance! Audience members of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favourite fairy tale character and some audience members may be brought up on stage to be a part of the story!
Snow White
The Queen has always been the “fairest in the land”. Her Magic Mirror tells her so! But when the Queen hears that Snow White has surpassed her, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get rid of her… forever! Fortunately, Snow White escapes into the Deep Dark Woods, where she chances on a tiny cottage. Little does she know that the Seven Dwarves living there will help save her! The classic story of our heroine, as she encounters hapless Huntsmen, bad apples, and little men with big hearts and short tempers, comes to life as DuffleBag helps Snow White towards her “happily ever after”!
This is an interactive performance! Audience members of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favourite fairy tale character and some audience members may be brought up on stage to be a part of the story!
For Tickets to either (or better, both!) shows, click HERE to visit the Lighthouse Theatre website.
Whitehorse Bowling
The Whitehorse Bowling Alley isn’t just 5 and 10 pin bowling! They also have indoor mini putt, arcade games and snacks. I don’t know about you but having them put up the gutter guards “for the kids” sure improves my score ;) You can visit their Facebook page HERE.
Simcoe Strand Theatre
It’s a little early to know what the schedule will be and what movies might be showing but keep in mind you don’t have to travel too far to see a show! The Strand has two smaller theatres but run first time movies and has yummy popcorn just minutes from home. Keep an eye on their WEBSITE for showtimes, they usually add extra matinees :)
