March Break 2020 in Norfolk County

march break.jpg

March Break is almost here - can you believe it?! We’re parents too at Mummery & Co, and we are right there with you wondering what we can do with our little darlings while they’re off for the week. Our kids range in age from 7 - 15 and while not all events are going to please all kids, we’ve put together a list of (mostly) local things to do if you aren’t able to get really far away. Some are drop off camp style and some are things you can do as a family if you have some time away from work to hang out and listen to them complain they’re bored ;).

Whatever you do (or don’t do) we hope this compilation makes your life a little easier…!

Lighthouse Theatre

RobinHood.jpg

March 17th

While the King is away, the people of England suffer under the oppressive rule of his tax-happy brother, Prince John. Only a straight arrow like Robin Hood, the best archer in the land, can save England! By stealing from the rich and giving back to the poor, Robin keeps the spirit of justice alive with the help of a few friends along the way, including Maid Marian, Friar Tuck, and Little John. But what if the Prince and the dreaded Sheriff of Nottingham lay a trap for our hero? With their trademark zany humour and fun, DuffleBag hits the mark with this on-target tale of derring-do!

March Break Movies at Cineplex

movie watching.jpg

I don’t remember where I heard that Cineplex was showing slightly older movies over March Break at less than regular price but I LOVE the idea! You can go back and watch something you missed like the Addams Family (for us) or rewatch some of your favourites like Wonder (bring the kleenex!). The Strand locally might have some matinees but the website doesn’t show them yet. You can check back on their WEBSITE later.

You can find out the Cineplex Movie Lineup HERE.

White Horse Bowling

Whitehorse Bowling in Simcoe has 5 pin and 10 pin bowling, a small arcade, mini golf and NEW, an indoor playground! They sell snacks (the pizza is pretty good for the price) and drinks so no outside food allowed, though if there is a food allergy I’m sure they would work with you. We’ve taken the girls bowling and it’s even more fun with the gutter guards up - which was for the girls of course ;). You can find out more details by going to their FACEBOOK page.

Norfolk County Public Library

Too many amazing opportunities to mention one by one but you need to check out the calendar HERE! There are story times, an amazing MakerSPACE camp in the afternoons, even High Tea with Fancy Nancy… Most of the events are FREE and the weather doesn’t matter :). Try as we may, we cannot link the calendar here so just scroll down on their home page to the calendar of events and click on each description to see all of the cool things they have going on!

For the Whole Family -

Swell Sessions with Nolan Gibson

nolan.jpg

Nolan Gibson is a kick-ass local musician and songwriter with a strong connection to the Norfolk music scene, and a passion for his craft. Finding it hard to stick to a single genre, Nolan would loosely consider himself a 'blues centered" artist, but nothing is off limits, and nothing is safe from creative reinterpretation.

Shortlist of influences: Muddy Waters, D'Angelo Madison Cunningham, Brittany Howard, Marcus King, Bon Iver, Julian Lage, Hozier, Vulfpeck, The Band.

He's performed at venues and events such as: Norfolk Has Talent, Lynn River Music Arts Festival, Lighthouse Festival Theatre, and Cornstalk. He also plays a vital role in his band "Midnight Boogie", and sits in often with the highly-esteemed "Jesse Murphy Trio".

Join us here at Groundswell on Friday, March 20th to soak up the soulful sounds, and intensely blues-y interpretations, from the one and only Nolan Gibson.

Tickets are available HERE!

See you there! Tickets are limited! So when they come out, get yours fast!

Maple Sugar Bush Tours and Brunch

Canva - Maple Syrup Tap.jpg

March 16 - 21

Touring the Sugar Bush is one of the most Canadian ways to enjoy the great outdoors and is an annual tradition for many families. Take a wagon ride to the sugar bush for a guided tour, learn about modern and historical methods of sap collection, and sample some pure maple taffy made fresh for you on-site in the snow (if there is snow!).

Warm up afterwards in the on-Farm Market with family and friends as you enjoy some piping hot pancakes, sausage and pure maple syrup. Richardson’s Farm and Market is a 6th generation working farm located in the heart of Haldimand County’s countryside.
