Travel Thursdays - Burning Kiln Winery

Norfolk County is known as “Ontario’s Garden”, and one of the most popular crops grown among the over 19 crowd are our grapes. Driving along the County’s beautiful backroads you’ll see acres of different species climbing their trellises, which are needed for the production of the amazing variety of local wines.

This Fall we were fortunate enough not only to visit the Burning Kiln Winery, but to get almost front row tickets to the Chantal Kreviazuk concert on the lawn (CHANTAL KREVIAZUK!!) and a perfect day to enjoy it. Abby and I took my two oldest daughters and we sang and laughed and smiled til it hurt. We are so lucky to live near such a world class entertainment venue - but next time I want a Ride the Bine ticket to go with it ;)

Burning Kiln Winery is an award winning local winery first imagined in 2007 by a forward-thinking group of Norfolkians. Years of tending to the vines, reimagining the kilns, original farmhouse and barn on a former tobacco farm, and old-fashioned perserverance, resulted in the official opening in 2011.

Canned Heat is the on-site restaurant and it is YUMMY! The best thing about it is that it has something for everyone. I’m a super picky eater and I loved the pizza, while Abby enjoyed something super “foodie” and we both sipped our wine under the warm fall sun on the patio.

Lovingly restored to its 1865 charm, with modern conveniences of course, you can stay the night at the “Farmhouse” if that VQA goodness has you feeling fuzzy. The perfect getaway for either a girls’ weekend or romantic night away, make sure you pick a time to watch one of the beautiful outdoor concerts while you’re there.

You’ll find Burning Kiln Winery just a few minutes outside of Turkey Point which is about an hour and forty-five minutes from Toronto and a little shorter in the opposite direction to London. A huge bonus is the proximity to the Turkey Point Beach, Long Point Eco Adventures, small town shopping, markets and a beautiful Trail System to walk and bike.

When it’s safe to do so, we hope you’ll visit our beautiful area and please let our friends at the Burning Kiln know we sent you :)
