Travel Thursdays - Erie Beach Hotel
Port Dover isn’t Port Dover without the Erie Beach Hotel. I’ve never had the pleasure of staying in one of their rooms because I live about a 20 minute walk away but the location is SO perfect that maybe I should plan a couples getaway anyway! We moved to Dover when I was eight and one of my longest standing memories was when we were lucky enough to eat somewhere “fancy” to celebrate a milestone, it was at the Erie Beach Cove Room. With their famous salads (my favourite is the sunshine salad) and wait staff in traditional white uniforms, cloth table coverings and carpeted floors, it was the obvious choice for my 16th Birthday. I’ll never forget it.
We recently celebrated a Covid-style grade 8 graduation for our daughter Sophie and as a family we headed up to the rooftop patio, the “Perch”, and enjoyed a delicious meal with a view, and service, that can’t be beat!
The Erie Beach is a family-run business has been famously serving Lake Erie Perch and Pickerel for over 70 years. They offer two separate dining areas, The Cove Room and The Terrace Room, (which features their newly completed Perch Patio), as well as private meeting/dining rooms and 18 quaint and newly renovated motel-style rooms. Treat yourself to one of the Schneider family’s amazing restaurants or to an overnight stay in one of their appealing and comfortable rooms; you deserve it!
They have an option for everyone, whether you’re looking for a full service dining experience, or a great place to simply grab a drink. From late afternoon lounging, to catching the big game amongst friends, to a full-service family dinner, they have you completely covered.
Their family feels it’s important to support our community and are proud to serve local products in both of their dining areas, from local wine & beer to fish, meat & produce. Norfolk County has so much to offer, and they can’t wait to share it with you!
If you’re looking for something you can grab and go, the Arbor might be more your speed. It’s on the corner of Main and Walker streets just a few steps from the Erie Beach. Their world famous (well I think so) Golden Glow pairs nicely with their fresh cut fries and footlong hot dogs! Have a quick bite and then head across the road to the Arbortown mini golf course, it’s nautical themed holes are fun for the whole family.
You’ll find the Erie Beach at the edge of Lake Erie in *Port Dover (*I have no idea why it doesn’t map right but if you click the pin further southwest in Turkey Point it will take you there - weird!) which is about an hour and a half from Toronto and about the same in the opposite direction to London. A huge bonus is the the fact that it is mere steps to the beach, walking distance to the Lighthouse Theatre, small town shopping, markets and a beautiful Trail System to walk and bike.
When it’s safe to do so, we hope you’ll visit our beautiful area, and please let Pam and Andrew at the Erie Beach know we sent you :)
