Ain't No Folk Like Nor-Folk Professionals
Shopping local has been a “thing” for quite a while now but never has it been more important than within the last year.
The pandemic has taught us that our friends’ and neighbours’, and sometimes our own, livelihoods depend on it.
When you think about shopping local what does that mean to you? I’m asking that question seriously.
Does that mean your local grocery store, butcher shop, bakery, farmer’s market or roadside stand rather than the large box stores outside of your area? How about local independent restaurants and retail shops? I’ll bet you think of local makers’ Etsy stores and Facebook pages and handmade goods. Probably in our area a local brewery, winery or local musician.
These are all amazing opportunities to support the kids’ parents who go to school with your kid. The children of the people you see walking about in your community. The family and friends of your fellow Norfolkians.
But here’s where I want you to consider how you feel about professional services.
Do you believe that our local professionals have what it takes to get the job done?
With my whole heart I say yes in most cases we do.
We have long been a lover of local and a champion for the “little guy”. Looking back we officially started our “Follow Friday” feature on our social media channels to spotlight community businesses in November of 2019. This is not new so why is it taking so long for the idea of using a local Professional to catch on?
Here’s the ask.
When you are in need of a Professional: Doctor, Lawyer, Dentist, Mechanic, Car Dealership, Graphic Designer, Accountant, REALTOR®, Mortgage Agent, Marketing Specialist, Photographer, Financial Advisor, Insurance Agent, Hairstylist, (you get the picture), shop local.
I’m not saying that there won’t be times that you need to go out of area because what you need, whether it be goods or services, isn’t available here. We are a small community here in the ‘Folk which is part of our charm and we do know that sometimes there are limits on what we can offer… but not often.
There is no-one that cares more about this area and its’ residents than someone who chooses to call this place their home.
