Theodore Too visits Port Dover!

We are SO excited that Theodore Too has arrived here in Port Dover and is right out in front of our office today!

Theodore was hoping to be stationed at our amazing Port Dover Harbour Museum tomorrow but according to Captain Caitlin it was a little too shallow :( so they will stay docked right out front of us while they are here. Our local Library Branch will be hosting storytime at 1 pm Tuesday (as far as we know) and while you’re there you can check out the Museum too!

So where does the story of Theodore come from? Well who doesn’t love when their dad makes up cool stories for them?! I’ll bet that Andrew Cochran’s son was pretty pumped to see his bedtime stories come to life…

Mr. Cochran’s stories about the boats in the Nova Scotia Harbour and how they would interact with others became the premise behind the Theodore Tugboat series that first aired back in 1989. Theodore became such a big hit that Cochran Entertainment built a life-sized model for marketing and promoting safety on the water.

After construction at Snyder’s Shipyard in Dayspring, NS, Theodore was first launched on April 19, 2000 and made its first visit to the Halifax port in May of 2000. Having been sold to Blair McKeil of McKeil Marine, you’ll find Theodore making his home in the Hamilton Harbour. But first, an epic journey to those young and young-at-heart, who love him (and tugboats).

I had a chance to speak with Captain Caitlin in between groups of visitors and she shared a little about her journey, telling me that she has been with Theodore Too for a year so far. Before that she was the Captain on Tall Ships. She gave sailing lessons to kids and was actually part of an all female crew, which as a mom of four girls, I find inspiring! She was fantastic to speak with and had a warm smile for everyone.

Our neighbour’s little guy was a HUGE fan of Thomas and Theodore and I’m sure will lose his mind when he sees it in person!

You can check out more here on Wikipedia or visit the official Theodore Too website or social channels.
